Video production

Video production for explainers, CTV and social

Video production at 4:59 takes a message from concept and script through animation or live action to finished explainers, CTV and OTT ads, social video and motion graphics. It is for marketing teams that need video to explain a product, run on streaming and social, or keep a campaign moving across every screen, delivered on a fixed date.

What’s included

Everything you need, from one team.

  • Concept and scripting

Creative concepts, scripts and voiceover copy built on one clear message and one job. Our writers start from your positioning and the questions buyers ask, put the problem on screen before the product, and cut every line that does not move the story.

  • Explainer videos

Animated or live action explainers that make a product easy to understand for a specific audience, with a sharp script, a visual system drawn from your brand and a clear next step. We made a 2-minute explainer for PEX and one for Alliance Direct Benefits.

  • CTV and OTT ads

Spots for connected TV and streaming with branding early, type readable from across the room and sound mixed for a living room. We create them alongside your media team or partner and deliver to their specs, as with our :30 OTT ad for Cheddar.com.

  • Social video

Short vertical and square edits designed for each platform, built to earn attention in the first seconds and to work with the sound off. We design social motion as a system of type styles, transitions and layouts, so new posts are quick to produce.

  • Motion graphics

Animated type, data, product and interface sequences styled to your brand, plus animated infographics. If your guidelines do not cover motion yet, we define how type, color and illustration should move so every future piece looks consistent.

  • 2D and 3D animation

2D animation for flat, graphic brand systems, explainers and character work, and 3D for products, environments and mechanisms that are hard or costly to film. Animation is easier to update when your product or message changes. Our work includes a :30 animated spot for CPA.com.

  • Live action

Brand films, promos and product videos, planned from script and storyboard through shoot, edit and finishing. Live action suits customer stories, founder messages, events and physical products. We settle locations, talent and crew up front, since changes after a shoot take days.

  • Web and banner motion

Video backgrounds, SVG animation and animated banners that carry the video's look onto your site and ads. We built SVG animation into Photino's WordPress site, and custom video backgrounds and dynamic product imagery for Little Big Brands.

  • Versions and cutdowns

Shorter cutdowns, vertical, square and widescreen edits, captioned files and spec-ready deliverables for streaming, social and your website, all from one approved master. We plan versions at the brief, so the master is framed and paced to reformat cleanly.

How it works

A fixed date and a named owner, from day one.

  1. 01

    Brief

We agree on the audience, the message, where the video will run and what it needs to achieve.

  2. 02

    Concept and script

We develop concepts and write the script, then lock it before production begins.

  3. 03

    Style frames and storyboard

We set the visual style and storyboard every scene so you see the film before it is made.

  4. 04

    Production and edit

We animate or shoot, edit, add sound and music, and share cuts for review at agreed points.

  5. 05

    Versions and delivery

We deliver every length, ratio and spec you need, then review performance to shape the next piece.

Technology at every step

Where AI speeds this up, and where people check it.

  • Research and transcript synthesis

Interviews, product docs and sales calls are transcribed and summarized quickly so writers start from the questions buyers actually ask. The writer still owns the concept and every line of the script.

  • Draft frames for internal review

AI tooling produces rough storyboard and shot-list drafts that help the team compare directions early. Designers create the style frames and storyboards you approve.

  • Faster cutdowns and reformatting

Approved masters are reframed into vertical, square and widescreen versions and trimmed to shorter lengths faster. An editor checks every cut for pacing, framing and legibility.

  • Captions and delivery checks

Captions are generated automatically and proofread by a person. Files are checked against delivery specs for duration, resolution, format and audio levels before a producer signs off.

FAQ

Questions we hear a lot.

What do we get from a video project with 4:59?

You get a finished master plus every version your channels need: shorter cutdowns, vertical, square and widescreen edits, captioned files and spec-ready files for streaming, social and your website. The project covers concept, script, design, production, edit, sound and delivery. Our work includes a :30 OTT ad for Cheddar.com, a :30 animated spot for CPA.com, a promo for JLL Corrigo, a :90 installer promo for Castrol and a 2-minute explainer for PEX.

How does a video project run from concept to delivery?

Every project gets a fixed date and a named owner at kickoff, with review points agreed up front: script, style frames and storyboard, then rough and final cuts. Locking the script before design and the storyboard before production keeps the schedule, because changes on paper take minutes and changes after animation or a shoot take days. You can work with us full service, add our video team to yours, or bring us in for creative direction.

Do you write the script, or do we need to provide one?

We can do either. Most clients come to 4:59 with a goal and a message, and our writers develop the concept and script from there, working from your positioning and the questions your buyers ask. If you already have a script, we review it for clarity and pacing, suggest edits, and move straight into style frames and storyboard.

How long should an explainer video be?

As long as the story needs and no longer. A product with several moving parts may need a couple of minutes; the explainer 4:59 made for PEX ran two minutes. A single idea for social or advertising can work in far less time. We set length during scripting, based on where the video will run, and usually cut shorter versions from the main edit.

What makes an explainer video work?

An effective explainer makes a product easy to understand for a specific audience. It needs a sharp script, a simple visual system and an ending that tells viewers what to do next. We start from the questions your buyers ask and show the problem before the product. The look should come from your brand. Photino's animated explainer was made alongside its logo, color palette and WordPress site, all in six weeks, so every piece shared one look.

Should we choose animation or live action?

Choose animation to show something abstract, complex or invisible, such as software, data or a process. Choose live action when real people, places or products build trust. 2D animation suits graphic brand systems and explainers, and 3D suits products and mechanisms that are hard to film. Animation is easier to update later. Live action brings faces and emotion, with the logistics of locations, talent and crew. Many projects mix the two, and we recommend a format after the brief.

Can 4:59 produce CTV and OTT ads?

Yes. We produce spots for connected TV and streaming, including a :30 OTT ad for Cheddar.com and a :30 animated spot for CPA.com. We create them alongside your media team or partner, who plan and buy the placements, and deliver to their specs. Spots need branding early, type readable from across a room and sound mixed for a living room. We plan the display and social cutdowns and the landing page with the spot.

How are social video and motion graphics different from a spot?

They are built for feeds where people scroll, often with the sound off. They have to earn attention in the first seconds, carry meaning through on-screen type and fit each platform's native sizes. We design social motion as a system of type styles, transitions and layouts, so new posts are quick to produce. For Akamai, our embedded studio produced social motion graphics, animated GIF banners and interactive digital out-of-home ads in New York, London, Tokyo and Brazil.

How does 4:59 use AI in video production?

We use AI tooling to transcribe and summarize source material, draft rough storyboard frames for internal comparison, reframe approved edits for each platform, generate captions and check files against delivery specs. Senior writers, designers and editors own the concept, script, art direction and final cut, and a person proofreads every caption. The time saved goes into craft and holding the delivery date.
